Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress that works in both film, television and theatre. Her most well-known role is Teri Joe, a fiery lawyer from The Showtime program Soul Food. After her wedding, she is also known for her role as Nikki Kodjoe. She was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an interest in acting from childhood and received a Best Actress award in an Maryland high school contest. In the years following her involvement in acting and in "The Washington Ballet Company", she received an acting degree at the New York University. The actress received lots of praise after her debut major part in The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love. This was immediately followed by other films like "Boogie Nights Spark, Blue Streak". Soul Food received a lot of applause for her performance. She has also starred in TV series like Second Time Around" and Empire. Prior to that she appeared in a variety of stage productions. Parker is engaged to Boris Kodjoe, an actor and model. They have two children together.
Contractor was born in Mumbai in India, was raised in Nigeria through the age of seven. She was already exposed to numerous travel experiences and other cultures since a early age. At the age of seven through nine, she was a student at boarding schools in London. Her family moved to Toronto which she stayed in throughout her early years. Contractor was a successful academic throughout her time in Toronto in addition to her training as a ballerina. At the Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school that specializes in the arts) she studied dance and theatre. At the age of 16 and after more than 10 years of dancing, Contractor realized she wanted to take up acting as a profession. She was awarded a full scholarship to pursue a degree at the University of Toronto after graduating. The university offered her master's in theatre, and also double-majored in social and psychology. Contractor was offered the leading character in Pericles following a brief time at the University. She was a part of the audition for it at Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and won. The 92 productions she performed received acclaim from Canadian critics. She accepted the invitation to join Stratford's conservatory. It is a place which allows just four men and eight women are able to take the 20-week crash course of classical theater. The actress's spot in the next production was secured, and she was chosen as Hermia.
